Child Support at the Top
An article in the New York Post recently reported that supermodel Linda Evangelista is asking the New York Court system to award her what the support magistrate in charge of the case is calling the largest cash demand for a child support order in the history of New York Family Court. Evangelista is asking for $46,000 per month in child support for her 4-year old son from her ex-husband. What might be more surprising than the astronomical award amount is the fact that in this particular case, the ex-husband can easily afford to make the payments.
Evangelista’s ex-husband and the child’s father is French billionaire, Francois-Henri Pinault. Pinault is also the CEO of Pinault-Printemps-Redoute, a Paris-based concern that owns the Gucci, Yves St. Laurent and Bottega Veneta luxury brands known worldwide. The Post reports that Pinault, who is seldom seen without an attractive female companion, is currently married to actress Salma Hayek. The couple has a three-year-old daughter of their own and together the Pinault family is worth an estimated $11.5 billion.
He demand for support stems from Evangelista’s claim that Pinault has never provided any support for the child he fathered. Evangelista’s lawyers said that the $46,000 per month will go towards nannies, drivers, and a security detail for 4-year old Augustin James, the model’s son by Pinault. So far the Post reports that the judge in the case seems to be sympathetic to the demands because of the press the case is expected to generate, and had no real problem with the amount of support other than noting the $7,500 Evangelista wanted as monthly “vacation expenses.”
