Four Types
General term: Post-divorce durational limits by marriage. Rehabilitative: Specific training max 5 years. Reimbursement: Contribution compensation. Transitional: Economic adjustment max 3 years.
Duration Limits General Term
Under 5 years: 50 percent marriage. 5-10 years: 60 percent. 10-15 years: 70 percent. 15-20 years: 80 percent. 20 plus years: can deviate or indefinite. Terminates at full retirement age unless unjust.
Amounts
No specific formula but guideline: 30-35 percent income difference not exceeding recipient need. For 110k versus 50k Boston expect 1800-2100 monthly.
Tax
Post-2018: NOT deductible NOT taxable. Massachusetts follows federal. State flat 5 percent plus 4 percent short-term capital gains.
